Russ Mentzer began his optical career in 1951 and opened Russ’ Uptown Optical 27 years later in 1978. From the beginning, Russ’ Uptown Optical has been the premier quality eyewear company in the Des Moines area. For over 40 years, its emphasis on cutting edge optics and quality frames has made us the best eyewear you can buy. After Russ retired in 1988, his son Doug dedicated himself to providing the same great service and quality eyewear. They hope to continue the tradition that Russ started in 1978 with Michelle and Doug’s son Kyle.
