Attn Palo Alto: Premier Properties is pleased to announce a new home improvement store opening on California Avenue in 2021. Despite struggling to fill retail space during the pandemic, Premier negotiated a lease at 251 California Avenue in May 2020 with the owner of Nob Hill Hardware in San Francisco.
Yelp reviewers called Nob Hill Hardware a “great neighborhood hardware store” (N A.) and praised “the owners were helpful when they walked in, and really helpful” (Lindsay C.). They hope that neighborhood friendliness and local accessibility will flourish in the California Avenue business district.
The new ±3,144-square-foot hardware store is expected to open in summer 2021. As you plan your home improvement project, keep in mind that a great resource may be just a few blocks away. Premier Properties is representing the lessor in this transaction and the lessee is not.
Nob Hill Hardware is owned by Mihail Fechte, a longtime resident of Menlo Park, which used to be part of a larger FedEx office and now occupies a smaller space next door. The store is planning a celebration in May. Shoppers are greeted with pliers, ratchets, hammers and other tools one would expect to find at a hardware store, but the store also stocks a variety of kitchenware, party supplies and other miscellaneous items.
Fitchett said this week that the store was restocking, but supply chain issues delayed the arrival of some items. The store owner wants the selection to match that of his San Francisco store, which has about 10,000 items.

Walked in to get the tape, the staff in the store were very helpful and suggested the most convenient tape to use to keep me away from expensive brands. I asked him if he had a box that I could take away and was offered three sturdy boxes, which he helped me put together nicely for me to carry around. It’s great to have such friendly and honest service. highly recommended!
Knob Hill Hardware on Cal Avenue is now fully stocked. The staff will help you find the items you need for your repair project. Parking is easy, but I appreciate the bike racks at the front of the store. Buy this much-needed business locally.
